Of all the campgrounds on the Oregon central coast only one is actually on the ocean. Tillicum Beach Campground, about 30 miles north of Florence, is a very popular National Forest Campground. The campground takes reservations, but there are some first come – first served sites so on the Saturday before the Fourth of July we decided to try for one. We didn’t get a beachside site, but one in the woods with a view of the ocean…pretty nice. The weather for the next few days was scheduled to be Oregoniesh…overcast, showers, maybe rain, possibly, but not likely, sunny, but there’s plenty to do in this area, The Oregon Coast Aquarium is just north in Newport and that seemed like a good rainy Sunday afternoon trip. On the way up to the aquarium we stopped at Seal Rock Beach.
It was great fun and I recommend it if you are in the area sometime. Also in this area are the delightful little oceanside town of Yachats (Ya ′Hots), the rocky Cape Perpetua Coast, and the Cape Perpetua Trail to the highest point on the Oregon Coast…continued.
